Every tree holds a story. Our role is to ensure that story continues with tables that are very hard to find when they are this wide and not glued together. We have tables made from old ash trees that are almost non-existent today. We have American Chestnut wall clocks that are very rare to own.
Your own special and loved home needs a proper matching hardwood table adornment to always make it complete, and each piece does have our amazing smooth tricolored matrix of brilliant glass mica powder bits permanently embedded deep within its easy smooth polyurethane topcoats that seem to light up in the sunlight through the windows of your home. These tables blend seamlessly into your home decor. Bring the scenery in to enjoy every day of your life.
We will always select the driftless area's highest grade authentic ultra dried flattened (air-dried or kiln dried) hardwood tree center slabs to construct our tables.
These magnificent tables often tell a story of both the forest and the human hands that shaped them into the tables they are today. They are practically brought from the forest with no middleman, right into your space to help give it that all around character, straight from nature.
Utilizing Ron's generous use of time, talent, craftsmanship, due diligence and a little bit of hard work thrown in, these tables come alive again! The craftsmanship and skill from the Hanson's touch brings value to the art in tables, expressed in the design and function specific to the construction needed in creating unique and meaningful pieces.
Hanson's Hardwood Designs is a small business, and we uphold a meaning for the language of love for creating a simple, but not simpler eye pleasingly, personally inspiring tables that always uses 100 percent locally, naturally produced hardwoods for our tables such as green ash, black cherry, hackberry, American elm, white oak and more. We use a variety of hardwoods in our tables to give it its uniqueness you won't get if the table is mass produced by manufacturers that will use composite and mostly synthetic materials to make their tables that you have to put together yourself. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for in these circumstances while taking that risk of it breaking a little further down the road. Buying cheaply made furniture is probably something you should avoid at all costs.
Wood from trees is the single rarest material in the universe. There could be entire planets out there made of gold and diamonds, but as far as we know, Earth is the only planet in the universe that would have wood. Wood as we know it, only exists on Earth.
Wood comes from complex plant life itself, so by carefully and purposefully researching the tree species location and environment from which it lived and exploring a tree by its forest life's events and disturbances, or when it had field clearings by farmers.
There is less than 1% of our original virgin (frontier forests) still intact and remaining in Wisconsin and less than 4% of the existing original trees still standing in all of the U.S. that it once had before, in about 1910. Modern industrialized logging and clearing practices began since the 1800s and before and the damage was done. A majority of old-growth, unlogged forests are gone forever, never to return again.
Modern practices of various replanting methods were scant or non-existent at that time and almost all of the native timberland trees were cut down for various reasons. The Indians that lived here long before we did, hundreds of years ago, set regular intentional wildfires to manage their environments in order to promote desirable ecosystems that benefitted native plants and animals throughout the forested lands we once had.
By studying the ecology of the forest's disturbances, it will most likely lead to better land management practices that put native trees grown here, above all others. We hope to discover the real story and history behind our hardwood table's look. It's the special unique individuality that always counts when making natural edge tables. These tables are made to be individual, as if mother nature herself was being forthright in her judgement of natural beauty contained in the hardwood table's beauty.
